| The core laboratories of the Center for Human Genetics and Integrative Biology
are equipped with state of the art instrumentation and provide a variety of
standard and customized genetic analyses to university researchers and their
collaborators. In addition, the laboratories offer expert knowledge and support
with experimental design, protocol development, technical support, data analysis,
and interpretation.

| Clone Services | The Clone Services laboratory provides access to clone libraries and colony picking. The I.M.A.G.E consortium (LLNL) cDNA clones and the RPCI-11 BAC library clones are available to University of Pittsburgh researchers only. In addition high throughput colony picking from agarose plates is available for applications such as SAGE. |
| Proteomics |
The Proteomics laboratory will use an integrated system of technologies for the study, discovery and interaction analysis of proteins and peptides in disease or treatment states.
Currently the Ciphergen Protein Chip® Array system is available for rapid and sensitive protein/peptide profiling. We will soon offer difference 2-D gel electrophoresis (DIGE) for quantitative and comprehensive protein expression profiling. In the future we hope to offer micro-LC/MS/MS to provide for data-dependent database search capabilities to identify proteins of interest.

Gene Expression | The Expression laboratories utilize a variety of methods to identify new and previously identified genes that are specifically expressed at critical times in development or in a disease state. High Throughput Sequencing | HTS is provided by an Applied Biosystems 3700 DNA Analyzer. The 3700 is capable of sequencing 576 samples per 24 hour period. |
| Genotyping / Linkage Studies | The Genotyping Core provides genome-wide scans and fine mapping services. Genotyping at individual loci may also be conducted through this core or throuch other cores, such as the TaqMan facility. |
| Transgenics & Knockouts | The Transgenic & Knockout Mouse Core Facility provides a centralized service to efficiently produce transgenic and knockout mice for basic research. |
| Cytogenetics | The Cytogenetics Facility provides classical and molecular cytogenetic analyses of human or other mammalian cells. | ] | Specimen Processing | The specimen processing laboratory isolates DNA and RNA from a variety of tissue/cell types. |
