| Overview |
| |
| | The Genomics and Proteomics Core Laboratories offer full laboratory support for gene expression detection on the Illumina Beadchip using both the predefined content Beadchip platform and the custom content DASL assay for RNA from FFPE tissue as well as the Affymetrix Genechip platforms, including the Affymetrix Exon array. We are also available as an informational resource to help you design your microarray experiment and to offer troubleshooting and advice on the technical aspects of utilizing microarray technology in your research. |

| Accessing Microarray services through the GPCL |
| |
| | Genomics Manager Debby Hollingshead is available to go over the specifics of any project and review how the GPCL might best facilitate your research progress. She can be contacted at: hollings@pitt.edu or 412-648-1284.
You must be a registered facility user before submitting any samples for processing. If your laboratory is new to our services, please register here.

| General sample guidelines |
| |
| | RNA must be intact and of good purity at a concentration of not less than 250 ng/µl. Investigators are asked to assess RNA purity via OD 260/280 ratio. For good quality RNA this ratio is 1.8 or better. GPCL will assess RNA integrity via Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100. RNA must have a RIN (RNA integrity number) of 6 or better to be considered of sufficient quality for microarray analysis.
Samples can be brought to the Core Lab facility at 3343 Forbes Ave or to our sample drop off room 534 in Scaife Hall (near student lockers). All samples submitted to the GPCL must be clearly labeled with a distinctive sample ID on the top of the tube. Do not place any tape around the body of the tube. Samples should be accompanied by a gene expression array drop off form indicating the Principal Investigator, contact for this study, array platform and type to be used, service requested and sample specific information.

| Facility Acknowledgement |
| |
| | The Genomics and Proteomics Core Laboratories requests an acknowledgement in the Methods section of any publications resulting from data produced by our services. An example is "Sample preparation and array hybridization was conducted by the Genomics and Proteomics Core Laboratories of the University of Pittsburgh." |
